Although I only inherited these first tier Empress and Emperor Girls’ Day dolls, the full display has seven tiers of court ladies, entertainers, ministers and helpers. My favorite is the fifth tier composed of three helpers – the crying, the angry and the laughing drinker. Yes, it does make one wonder if the creator was also going through some kind of medieval lockdown but I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel and see these drinkers as essential to supporting the Empress and the Emperor through the gamut of life’s emotions.
